The CT Portal Announces SpeechUp! – The Blog for a World of Speech
Ottawa, Canada July 17, 2004 -- The CT Portal, one of the most comprehensive online telephony resources, has introduced SpeechUp!, a weblog for speech enthusiasts and professionals alike. The newly launched blog, located at speechup.computertelephony.org, was built to serve as an information exchange for the growing community of both speech developers and business users.
SpeechUp!, the first and only blog for speech, will discuss the latest technological and market developments from the personal perspective of those immersed in the industry. Among other topics, the blog will focus on the business case for speech, challenges and solutions for creating voice user interfaces (VUIs), open standards for speech, underlying telephony requirements, and more.
Speech recognition technology is making inroads. With the advent of open standards such as SALT and VoiceXML, support from major vendors like Microsoft, and faster processor speeds, the challenges of speech are increasingly being addressed and reduced. This opens the exciting opportunities in speech to the broadest possible audience.
"Although speech recognition is in the spotlight again, informative user groups and communities, such as blogs, seem to be very rare. In fact, there is only one newsgroup that I am aware of, but it is very technical in nature.
